TORONTO (March 4, 2020) – energi PR, an independent, Canadian-based health and consumer wellness communications agency with offices in Toronto and Montreal is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2020 with ambitious plans and abundant “energy” to propel it forward for yet another 30 years.

Founded in Montreal in 1990 by partners Carol Levine and Esther Buchsbaum energi PR has become one of the industry’s most respected communications firms, serving a diverse local and international clientele that value their experience, boutique approach and entrepreneurial spirit.

“Bigger is not necessarily better,” said Buchsbaum. “We don’t have layers of bureaucracy where it takes forever to make a decision or course correct a strategy on behalf of a client. That flexibility and level of creativity has served us well and helps us deliver results to clients who value our ability to help them tell stories that build their reputation, customer loyalty and market share.”

When energi PR opened its Toronto office in 2002, it became the first agency of its size to have bricks and mortar in Canada’s two key markets. Levine said that this put the agency in the enviable position of helping businesses navigate the linguistic, cultural and social differences, as well as help Quebec brands to build awareness in the rest of North America.

While energi PR has served a wide range of consumer brands including the Lufthansa Group of Airlines, P&G, Sunbeam, Samsung, Hotels.com, Hilton and Choice Hotels, Melitta Canada and POM Wonderful, they are highly recognized for their specialization in consumer health and medical science communications, an area that requires in-depth knowledge and expertise to communicate complex information aimed at consumers, patients, health professionals, regulators and payers.

This distinction was marked when the agency was invited to join the GLOBALHealthPR network, the world’s largest network of independently owned public relations agencies specializing in consumer and medical science communications. This partnership has allowed energi to build its international reach, add bench strength and participate in global business for the worlds top Pharma companies.

Examples of the brands that have tapped into energi PR’s expertise include Abbott, Astellas Pharma Canada, International Federation on Ageing, Bausch Health, Pfizer, Amgen, ViiV Healthcare, LEO Pharma, Tilray, and Tetra Bio-Pharma. Energi PR has also been a pioneer in communications for Canada’s nascent cannabis industry.

With an eye to the future, Buchsbaum and Levine have a succession plan in place to ensure their energi PR legacy.

“It’s been said before, but the truth holds that our greatest assets are our people, and we are lucky to have an amazing team on board,” said Levine. “Our model puts senior practitioners at the forefront – including the owners, which allows team members to learn and grow from direct and daily access to our leaders. We empower the team so they gain the experience and confidence to take on bigger challenges.”

One of the next generation of leaders at energi PR is Stephanie Engel, the firm’s senior vice president of client services.  “I love this company; it’s entrepreneurial and small enough where we can play an integral role in decision making and be on the front lines,” said Engel. “I get to be involved and take what Carol and Esther have built and help them take it to the next level.”
