Music & Dance of Flamenco en Rouge / Backdrop of Spanish Art & Textile

Ottawa, Ontario, July 17, 2018: Halifax-based Flamenco en Rouge brings its dramatic flamenco music and dance for a one-time performance at the National Gallery of Canada auditorium (380 Sussex Drive, Ottawa) on Saturday, August 11 at 2 pm.

The Flamenco en Rouge troupe consists of eight musicians and dancers dedicated to the pure, authentic beauty of the flamenco art form delivered through intensely original creations that combine heat, fire and passion. Artistic Director Martine Durier- Copp’s choreography, based on years of training in Spain, reflects an artistic vision that is pure, authentic, Jerez-style flamenco – a highly emotional style of gypsy flamenco, where the baile (dancing) closely reflects and integrates cante (singing), and gives expression to the words.

Camino Flamenco is a dramatic multimedia production on the theme of journey, developed in collaboration with artists David Howard andRobin Muller. Passionate and virtuosic flamenco music and dance are framed by projections of Spanish art, and specially produced textiles for this performance enhancing the audience’s sensory experience.

Principal dancers Durier-Copp, Ruth Pacis and Marina Roussakova are backed by internationally trained flamenco guitarists Chris Robinson, Matthew Martin and Bob Gaudreau; cajón/bohdrán player Sebastian Copp, and singer Brenley Heaver.

Tickets at $20 per person can be purchased at www.flamencoenrouge.eventbrite.ca or at the door for $20.
