TORONTO – NIAGARA – JUNE 5, 2018 – On Sunday, July 22nd, Port Dalhousie will be the host of the TD Niagara Jazz Festival’s inaugural WORLD MUSIC on the BEACH event. Four community stages will be filled with music from around the globe, located from Lakeside Beach, (Rotary and Pavilion stages), to Hogan’s Alley, to the fabulous new Lock One Stage (Tow Bridge Stage) honouring the historic first Welland Canal. This is FREE ENTERTAINMENT for the entire family – extraordinary music, dancing, culture, kids play zones, artisan vendors, wine and craft beer stalls as well as local culinary favourites…it’s all part of the award-winning TD Niagara Jazz Festival’s 5th season offerings, extending the Festival to a two-weekend, magical jazz event in Niagara.
According to Festival Executive Director Juliet Dunn, “We are thrilled to bring this event to Port Dalhousie. The World Stage has been a dream of ours since we began, and thanks to provincial, federal, regional and municipal funding, we have this amazing opportunity to show how World Music plays such an integral part in the world of jazz”. The World Stage will be showcasing a number of bands and musicians directly from Jamaica, Japan, Holland and the Ukraine, as well as home-grown World music artists from Ontario. Some of the selected performers include: MARUTYRI, C.O.M. Reggae Band, Sina Bathaie, Zeynep Ozbilen, Juneyt, hisaka and many more. “And you can leave your cars at home if you want,” says Dunn. “The Festival is setting up a completely secure ‘Bike Valet’ area, so that patrons can ride their bikes to Port and walk around to enjoy the music and sights.”
The TD Niagara Jazz Festival continues July 27th, 28th and 29th, with its Flagship opening event taking place at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, Friday July 27, and its hugely popular “JAZZ in the PARK” in Simcoe Park, Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Saturday and Sunday, July 28th and 29th.
The WORLD MUSIC on the BEACH event is made possible by the generous support of the TD Bank Group, the Province of Ontario (Ontario Media Development Corporation and Celebrate Ontario), the Niagara Region, the Government of Canada, Tourism Partnership of Niagara and the City of St. Catharines
